ROTTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS – A city on the sea, Rotterdam has several unique accommodation options. Docked on the river Maas, the SS Rotterdam has been welcoming visitors as a hotel and museum since February of 2010.

Guests can relax on the outer decks of the ship — the biggest ocean steamer ever built in the Netherlands — or take a tour of its inner compartments, including the authentic cabins, the engine room with its mighty steam turbines and the boiler room.

Launched by Queen Juliana in a gala ceremony in September of 1958, the SS Rotterdam was completed the following summer. On her maiden voyage she carried the then Crown Princess of the Netherlands to New York. Each of the 254 hotel rooms is dedicated to the elegance of the 1950s.

Designed as an entire city within the city, the Rem Koolhaas’ designed De Rotterdam is the largest multipurpose building in the Netherlands.
